Venom Blue Balls
So today marked a couple of superficial frustrations in the entertainment side of my life.
#1: "Lost" is going on a hiatus until February. FEBRUARY! I knew this already, but the latest episode was really REALLY good and it ended on a HUGE cliffhanger. Of course I was expecting a cliffhanger, but even so...
Gotta say, they BETTER not kill Sawyer (I doubt they will). I'm still freshly smarting from the loss of Mr. Eko. Two of my fav characters killed that close to each other will just be too much.
#2: The newest Spidey 3 trailer hit the web today (get it? WEB?), but it DIDN'T show what I was looking forward too. I wanted to see at least one shot of friggin' Venom in all his slimy-toothed, tongue-writhing glory. Oh well. I'll just have to wait for the next trailer, or until early May when Spidey swings into theaters (gaaaa...soooo LONNNNNGGG to wait!). I just hope that they don't short-change Venom and have him appear in nothing but the last shot of the movie. My vote says that if it's a 2 1/2 hour movie, let Venom be the baddy for the last half hour.
I've also seen a few fun movies recently. Jean-Pierre Jeunet came to campus last week (was it really only a week ago? Seems like a month...) for a screening of his movie "Delicatessen" which I adored. I had only known Jeunet before as the guy who did "Amelie" which I had only seen part of and not really cared for, AND as the guy who further crushed the once glorious Alien saga into the dirt. However after seeing Delicatessen I am DEFINATELY willing to give Amelie another chance. Jeunet himself seemed like exactly the sort of filmmaker that I like to know still exists...he is somebody who still gets goo-goo eyed about making movies, has a wonderfully droll sense of humor, and has a whimsical view of the world (I like to think I possess these qualities too...who knows?)
I also saw "Borat" and thought it was pretty gosh-darn hilarious. I feel bad for saying this, but my favorite jokes had to be the ones making fun of Jews. Although in truth it's not the jews who are being made fun of but anti-semitism as a whole (I could write a lot about it, but most well-respected magazines such as Newsweek and Time have already beat me to it and done a better job). The early "Running of the Jews" scene and the scene in the home of the Jewish couple had me LITERALLY falling out of my seat with laughter. And I'm not just saying that. I actually did sort of fall on the gooey movie theater floor at these points during the film.
"A-HI-FAIVE!!!"

Venom footage here. It's at the end of the trailer (rough cut, hence the random crappy CG on spidey). You're welcome :)
